Born in 1897, Louis Aragon was one of the early participants in the French Dada movement, & with Andre Breton & Phillipe Soupault founded the review Littérature. A founding member of Surrealism, Aragon broke with Breton & his followers after the scandal surrounding his poem "The Red Front." He joined the PCF in 1931, & during WWII became a prominent member of the French Resistance. Until his death in 1982, Aragon was one of the great National poets of France.
