Hiroya Takagai

Hiroya Takagai was born in 1961, and is the youngest member of the Sentakusen group, the iconoclastic collection of young poets that gathered around Minoru Yoshioka during the 1980's. He has published four books: Mezzanine (Sentakusen Press 1984), Deep Marsh (Sentakusen Press 1986), Rush Mats (Shichosha 1987, translation by Eric Selland Duration Press 1999), and Tree Spirit of Life (Shichosha, 1994). Work in English translation (by Eric Selland) has appeared in non, as well as a small selection published by Black Fire White Fire. Takagai was invited to be poet in residence at the Djerassi Foundation in San Francisco in November of 1997.
