All These Fair And Flagrant Things

All these fair and flagrant things
take shallow hold
roses are an opera of delicacy
the glory and the nothing of a name
off-white with shadows
reflecting the afternoon
joy is the seed of bounce and may
contain small amounts of gold or silver
the rising sun behind the hills for instance
as curved time selects numbers
that contract around the zero
like playing darts with a man
whose eye wanders
or the geometry of a buttercup
that thickens into fireweed
and expands into wistfulness
a monotone glare moving through light
It is what is happening every day
