Lori Baker |
In these four short stories, Lori Baker pushes the boundaries between truth & reality, usually with tragi-comic results. A feud between a student & his cat spins out of control; a woman's desire for "the most scrumptious and tasty hair" leads to fantastic results; a boy is trained to stop acting like a dog; an ordinary woman tells of how she has been cursed by her possessing the family heirloom: a cat pearl. These stories offer a good-natured but challenging reminder that fiction is based on imagination, artifice & expectations. Lori Baker's second collection of short stories, Crazy Water, won the Bobst Prize for short fiction from New York University. She is also a 1986 TransAtlantic Review Award winner. |
